Ambassador HM Mark A.G Kent paid a working visit to
Highland Education Development Organization ( HEDO Vietnam)
On
April 28th 2008, the HM British Ambassador Mark A.G Kent and his
wife visit HEDO’s office at No 4 Trinh Hoai Duc, Hanoi. After
visiting the show room of HEDO, Prof Trinh Ngoc Trinh, Director
of HEDO introduced to HM British Ambassador about projects HEDO
has implemented such as school building projects, building vocational
centers, training students overseas including nearly 100 students
who are now studying in the UK, project of training doctors in
term of HIV/AIDs prevention, training nurses for highland villages,
training traditional midwives to serve for the ethnic minority
women who have tradition to give birth at home, not to go to clinics
or hospitals, project on family planning, project on changing plants,
livestocks, transferring science technology to the highland areas
etc...
In nearly 200 projects that HEDO received from foreign countries,
there were 1/3 of them from organizations, universities, institutes
in the UK including 9 projects funded by British Embassy.
Prof. Trinh Ngoc Trinh has introduced to HM British Ambassador
about history of HEDO foundation and development from its start
up to now, especially the relationship with friends over the world
and the relationship between HEDO- Great Britain and British Embassy.
Prof. Trinh Ngoc Trinh also thanked the English people in general
as well as Great Britain in particular for the supports for the
ethnic minority people in Vietnam for the last years to reduce
poverty, eliminate hunger, develop education, health, science to
improve the quality of life, develop the friendship between Vietnam
and the UK in the remote, isolated areas. The British Ambassador
welcomed and highly appreciated HEDO’s works in the last
18 years for the cause of education, health and science development
and improve lives of ethnic minority people in Vietnam.
The Ambassador would like to support HEDO in the coming years to
widen and strengthen the relationship and cooperation with many
more organizations in the UK, and the British Embassy will directly
pay attention to support and promote organizations in the UK to
have more projects especially projects on education and training
that in “ The Britain- Vietnam joint declaration” that
was emphasized by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prime
Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Tan Dung. Hoping that in the years to
come, HEDO will contribute more for the development of the ethnic
minority people who are still in need in Vietnam. The Ambassador
was very happy to receive 4 project proposals in education, health,
poverty reduction and hunger elimination.
